Diddy Kong Racing

Diddy Kong Racing was developed by Rare for the Nintendo 64. It was hugely successfully with over 800,000 copies of the game being ordered two weeks before the Christmas  of 1997.  In the end this positioned Diddy Kong Racing as the sixth highest selling game for the Nintendo 64.

Diddy Kong Racing was not your ordinary kart racing game, it was designed with a distinctive adventure mode. The adventure mode added a bit of flair to the genre. Instead of just playing map after map, you would drive around certain hub worlds, each representing a different theme.

Diddy Kong Racing was also successful on introducing the players to a variety of new characters who went on to get their own games.  The game also provides more than just the normal kart, it also allows the player to drive a hovercraft and aeroplane.
