Mario Kart 64
Mario Kart 64 is one of the Nintendo 64’s most popular games. It was originally intended to be a release title but was delayed in favor of Super Mario 64.
The game represented the first big leap since the original Mario Kart games. It introduced features such as polygon-based 3D tracks and also the first to include four-player support.
The move to 3D tracks gave the designers the ability to do much more with a track such as changes in elevation, bridges, walls, and pits.
Despite the move to 3D tracks, the characters and items remained to be 2D sprites. In the end, Mario kart 64 would become the second highest selling game for the Nintendo 64, managing to sell 9.87 million copies worldwide.
