Star Fox 64
Star Fox 64 was developed by Nintendo EAD for the Nintendo 64, and the only one of the series to be released for it. It was a reboot of the original Star Fox released for the SNES.
Star Fox 64 is a 3D scrolling shooter game that is themed around aircraft combat, however the game does feature a minuscule amount of ground combat. The games mechanics aren’t anything special but the way Nintendo utilized them is what makes Star Fox 64 a critical success.
The game would end up having two re-releases, one in 2007 for the Wii Virtual Console, and another in 2011 for the 3DS.
The game was also the first to introduce the Rumble Pack to the Nintendo 64. Star Fox 64 managed to receive critical acclaim and was one of the top-selling games of 1997 but was bested by Mario Kart 64.
Star Fox 64 managed to however leave a legacy as it became listed as the 45th greatest game of all time by Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition in 2009.
