Yakumo
What you need: Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver. for the PS3 (NPJB-40001), as a disc image made from your own copy.
Yakumo is a native port of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver. for Windows, Linux, macOS and Android, made by static recompilation with PSPRecomp. The game’s PSP code, including all 355 of its code overlays, is translated ahead of time into C++ and runs on a reimplementation of the PSP system software with a Vulkan renderer, so it is not an emulator.
It has adjustable internal resolution, frame interpolation up to the display’s refresh rate while the game itself stays at 30 frames per second, faster loading, PPSSPP-compatible HD texture packs, mods, full keyboard, mouse and gamepad controls, and multiplayer through PSP ad hoc servers or over a LAN. Saves in the PSP’s own format can be imported. It is an alpha: curved surfaces are missing and the save-data dialogs draw nothing yet, and newer test builds appear as pre-releases.
The download contains no game data. It needs Monster Hunter Portable 3rd HD Ver. for the PS3 (NPJB-40001), as a disc image made from your own copy.
How to set it up
- Download the build for your device: the zip for Windows, the Flatpak or tar.gz for Linux and Steam Deck, the
.dmgfor macOS (Apple Silicon) or the APK for Android (64-bit, Android 10 or later). - Unzip and run
Yakumo.exeon Windows, install the Flatpak on Linux, drag Yakumo to Applications on macOS, or install the APK on Android. - On the first start, point the setup at your disc image. It checks the image and prepares the game from it.
- Updating keeps your settings and saves. Saves copied from a PSP can be imported from Yakumo’s menu (Esc, or L3+R3 on a gamepad).
