What you need: Your own decrypted dump of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled for the PS4, the USA edition (CUSA13795) or the European edition (CUSA14876), as folders of the base game and the 1.21 update. Windows 10 (1903 or later) or 11, 64-bit, or Linux x86-64 and the Steam Deck, with a Vulkan 1.3 graphics card.

Overview

Online Play60 FPS4K RenderingMod Support

OCTR is a native port of the PS4 version of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled for Windows 10/11 and Linux, with online play added. The game’s own x86-64 code runs directly on the processor, a small runtime stands in for the PS4 system libraries, and a renderer derived from shadPS4 translates the console’s graphics work to Vulkan. It is the online fork by Ryu7w7 of GetLostIn’s Windows build of SacredFire, T3CHNOLOG1C’s native Linux port, which grew out of the bbport Bloodborne port. No game files are included.

It is playable on Windows: Adventure and Arcade, races, sound, cutscenes, controllers and keyboard, saving, the game’s DLC from the player’s own packages, and community patches for 60 FPS and no motion blur. The internal resolution goes from 480p to native 4K, with AMD FSR 1, experimental AMD FSR 3.1 or NVIDIA DLSS upscaling, ultrawide layouts and an FPS limit of up to 240. An experimental native Vulkan engine is offered in the launcher, and the game’s shaders are prepared from the player’s own dump on the first start.

Online play is on by default and connects to the community RyuNET server: public and Itemless races, private rooms and cups, groups, friends and the Pit Stop, with a personal nickname that can be linked to a Discord account. The project is non-commercial and takes no donations. The Linux AppImage includes the GTK launcher and runs on the Steam Deck; macOS is not supported.

How to Set It Up

  1. On Windows, download the portable zip, extract it anywhere and open Crash™ Team Racing Nitro-Fueled.exe, the launcher. On Linux or the Steam Deck, download the AppImage, make it executable and run it.
  2. Choose your base game and 1.21 update folders and press Prepare the game once. It merges them with hard links, using no extra disk space.
  3. Pick a nickname in the Online tab (or turn online off), then press Play. Insert or L3+R3 opens the port’s in-game menu.
  4. To update, extract the new version over the same folder to keep settings, saves and the nickname key.

What's new in v0.8ONLINE CTR v0.8 - Public Itemless, team races, faster starts & fair play

public Itemless matchmaking, private team races, much faster starts, and fair play.

New

  • Public Itemless matchmaking. Itemless now has its own public queue: Itemless players only meet Itemless players, and Normal stays as it was. Your whole party needs v0.8; if someone has an older version, the game names them and does not start the search. Thanks to n0buholic (PRs #170, server #1).
  • Private team races with team colors and the winning team’s points, and an AI difficulty setting for private rooms. Thanks to n0buholic (PRs #151, #170).
  • Time Trial: one run now credits every ghost you beat (N. Tropy, Oxide, Velo and the developer times), with or without a ghost selected. Thanks to n0buholic (PR #124).
  • Faster starts. The game prepares itself once and reuses that work, so the next starts wait much less before loading (on our test PC, 17-23 s became about 5 s). Thanks to n0buholic (PR #171).
  • Steam shortcuts: starting the game from Steam no longer leaves a black window for minutes.
  • Fair play. Online item odds come from the server, and a mod or a modified file can no longer change them for you. Players banned for cheating are banned with their PC, so a new nickname or a fresh install does not bring them back. The game sends the server only an anonymous fingerprint of the PC (two SHA-256 digests), never your hardware details.
  • One save, with or without mods. Your progress is the same whether you play with mods or not. Saves from older mod sessions are merged once (the older copy is kept in mod-state\save-backups).
  • GPU picker by name in the launcher (Windows and Linux), for laptops with two GPUs. Thanks to Vo1dTear for the Linux side (PR #159).
  • Borderless window now covers the whole screen, and the native Vulkan engine compiles shaders faster on NVIDIA. Thanks to Enrique-Ale (PRs #169, #168).
  • Launcher: Bahasa Indonesia; the modding Discord on the Mods page; AMD FSR 4 always listed (with a note when its model files are missing); the controller no longer moves the launcher’s menus while you play.

Fixed

  • Large mod packs that were too big to load now start.
  • Itemless now works in private Cups.
  • A racer mod could stop the game at start with “entry 7322 is already replaced”; online plus a widescreen layout with “entry 7025 is already replaced” (n0buholic, PR #154).
  • Online setup crashed on dumps missing a Cup Select language file (n0buholic, PR #153); a damaged or incomplete game archive now says so plainly.
  • Unintended hops when the controller’s polling stalls (n0buholic, PR #161).
  • Native Vulkan stalls and shader cache races (n0buholic, PR #156).
  • 16:10 HUD alignment (david-labib, PR #144); several racer mods together (Enrique-Ale, PR #165); the Itemless label in private Single and Cup lobbies (n0buholic, PR #162).
  • Linux AppImage: NVIDIA Vulkan start and in-place updates (n0buholic, PR #143).

Error code 23: not fixed

Code 23 is not fixed, and it can still happen on any PC. If you get it, send us the log of that session (last_run_.log in the game folder).

Downloads

  • Windows: CTR-NitroFueled-PC-portable-v0.8-windows.zip. Unzip it over your current folder, or into a new one and let the launcher bring your settings. Download the zip from this page, not “Source code”.
  • Linux / Steam Deck: SacredFire-v0.8-x86_64.AppImage.

You need your own copy of the game: CUSA13795 or CUSA14876, base game and 1.21 update.

En español:

Nuevo

  • Itemless público: cola propia, así que Itemless solo empareja con Itemless y Normal sigue igual. Toda tu party necesita la v0.8; si alguien tiene una versión vieja, el juego dice quién y no busca partida. Gracias a n0buholic.
  • Carreras por equipos en salas privadas y dificultad de la IA para salas privadas (n0buholic).
