OpenGOAL
What you need: An ISO of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy (NTSC-U, PAL or NTSC-J), dumped from your own disc; Jak II and Jak 3 each need their own disc.
OpenGOAL is a native PC port of Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II and Jak 3 for Windows, Linux and macOS. The team wrote a decompiler for GOAL, the Lisp-based language Naughty Dog wrote the games in, and a new compiler that turns the decompiled code into native x86-64 programs. This download is the OpenGOAL Launcher, which fetches the current engine release from the jak-project repository and keeps it up to date.
The port runs at high frame rates and custom resolutions, including widescreen, and the launcher manages texture packs and mods. Jak and Daxter and Jak II are fully playable, and Jak 3 support has been released. It needs a processor with AVX.
The download contains no game data. It needs Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, Jak II or Jak 3 (NTSC-U, PAL or NTSC-J), dumped from your own disc. The first launch of each game extracts the disc and builds the game, which can take several minutes.
How to set it up
- Download the launcher for your system: the
.msiinstaller for Windows, the AppImage for Linux or the.dmgfor macOS. - Install and open the OpenGOAL Launcher, choose an install folder and let it download the current OpenGOAL release.
- Pick a game and select your ISO. The launcher extracts the disc and compiles the game, which takes several minutes the first time.
- Press Play. The launcher also installs updates, texture packs and mods.
