Xenogears

Xenogears is a role-playing game developed by Square and released in 1998 in Japan and North America. Fei Fong Wong, a young man with no memory of his past, is caught up in a war that reveals the hidden history of his world.

The game mixes on-foot battles, where combos are built from button presses, with fights in giant robots called Gears. It was directed by Tetsuya Takahashi, and Yasunori Mitsuda wrote the soundtrack. The second disc tells much of its story through narration because of limits on development time.

It was never released in Europe but is still one of the most discussed RPGs of the era.
