What you need: A disc image of R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 (USA, SLUS-00797), dumped from your own copy, as .cue/.bin.

Ridge Racer Type 4 Recomp is a native port of R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 for Windows and Linux, made by static recompilation with mstan’s PSXRecomp and the recomp-ui launcher. It targets the USA release (SLUS-00797) and is one of a batch of PlayStation recompilations omegakatana92 published in September 2026.

The launcher selects the disc and settings, and the open-source OpenBIOS is built in, so no BIOS dump is needed; a retail BIOS can be chosen instead. The PSXRecomp runtime also offers optional enhancements such as faster loading and PGXP geometry correction.

The release notes report graphics, audio and gameplay as working and say it was tested through a complete race, while the README calls it a work in progress. The download contains no game data. It needs R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 (USA, SLUS-00797), dumped from your own disc.

How to set it up

  1. Download the Windows zip or the Linux AppImage.
  2. Extract the zip and run Ridge_Racer_4_Recompiled.exe; on Linux, make the AppImage executable and run it.
  3. In the launcher, select your disc image; a .cue with its .bin tracks beside it is preferred.
  4. Keep the built-in OpenBIOS selected, or browse to a BIOS dump from your own console, then start the game.
