Metal Gear Solid is a stealth action game written and directed by Hideo Kojima and developed by Konami for the PlayStation, released in 1998. Solid Snake is sent alone to a nuclear weapons disposal facility on Shadow Moses Island, taken over by the renegade unit FOXHOUND, which threatens a nuclear strike.

Snake avoids guards using radar, cover and distractions, and the story is told through long cut-scenes and radio conversations. Its cinematic presentation and boss fights made it one of the most influential games of its generation.
