What you need: A disc image of Mega Man X4 (USA, SLUS-00561), dumped from your own copy, as .cue/.bin.

Mega Man X4 Recompiled is a native port of Mega Man X4 for Windows and Linux, made by static recompilation with PSXRecomp by mstan, the framework’s author. The game’s code is translated ahead of time into C and runs on a simulation of the PlayStation hardware.

The intro cinematics, title screen, menus and attract demos work, and a game can be started with working controls. It has OpenGL and software renderers and built-in mods for experimental 16:9 widescreen, interpolated frames, fast loading and a damage multiplier.

The author calls it an early playable preview: stages have not been widely tested or played to the end. The author says AI tools were used heavily in making it. The download contains no game data. It needs Mega Man X4 (USA, SLUS-00561), dumped from your own disc.

How to set it up

  1. Download the Windows zip or the Linux AppImage.
  2. Extract the zip and run MegaManX4Recomp.exe; on Linux, make the AppImage executable and run it.
  3. Select your Mega Man X4 disc image in the launcher and start the game.
  4. Optional mods such as widescreen and frame interpolation are off by default and can be enabled in the launcher.
