Severed Chains

What you need: All four discs of The Legend of Dragoon (USA) as .iso or .bin images, dumped from your own copy.

Severed Chains is a native port of The Legend of Dragoon for Windows, Linux and macOS. The team disassembled the game’s code and rewrote it in Java, so it is not an emulator, and it includes a modding API that lets mods change items, enemies, stats and more.

The game is fully playable with no known crashes. It adds resolution upscaling, fast forward, full analogue control, support for over 1,800 controllers, campaigns with their own saves and mods, and fixes for bugs from the original release.

This page follows the rolling development build, which the team recommends over its older stable build. The download contains no game data. It needs all four discs of The Legend of Dragoon, dumped from your own copy.

How to set it up

1. Download the build for your system and extract it to a folder.
2. Run launch.bat on Windows or the launch script on Linux and macOS; the download includes its own Java runtime.
3. Copy your four disc images into the isos folder; the game unpacks its files from them on first run.
4. An Update Available button on the title screen fetches newer builds and keeps your saves and mods.
