Verdite2

What you need: King's Field (USA, SLUS-00158) as a .cue/.bin or .chd disc image, dumped from your own copy.

Verdite2 is a native port of King’s Field (US) for Windows and Linux, built on the RecompOne static recompiler. It is a build kit: on first launch it asks for your disc and builds the game locally, which can take several minutes.

It adds widescreen, perspective-correct textures without vertex wobble, a z-buffer, anisotropic filtering, ambient occlusion, per-pixel lighting, smooth fog, 60 fps and above at the correct game speed, better audio, modern twin-stick and keyboard and mouse controls, automatic reload after death and mod support.

The game is playable from start to finish, with some intermittent issues. The author says AI tools were used heavily in making it. The download contains no game data. It needs King’s Field (USA), dumped from your own disc.

How to set it up

1. Download the Windows .zip or the Linux .AppImage (a Windows installer is also offered on the project page).
2. Extract the zip, or make the AppImage executable, and run Verdite2.
3. Choose your King’s Field disc image when asked.
4. The first launch builds the game from your disc, which can take several minutes; later launches start straight away.
