King's Field

King’s Field is a first-person role-playing game developed by FromSoftware. It was released in Japan in 1995 as King’s Field II and in North America in 1996 as King’s Field, the first game in the series to reach the West.

Prince Alexander sails to the cursed island of Melanat in search of the Moonlight Sword. The island is one large, connected world of caves, ruins and castles, explored in real time with slow, deliberate combat and little guidance.

Its difficulty and atmosphere are often seen as the roots of FromSoftware’s later Souls games.
