What you need: Both discs of Driver 2 (PlayStation, USA or Europe), dumped from your own copy.

REDRIVER2 is a native port of Driver 2 for Windows and Linux. The team disassembled the PlayStation game and translated it from MIPS back to C by hand, using the debugging symbols left on some releases, so no emulation is involved. It runs on Psy-X (PsyCross), a layer that stands in for the PlayStation libraries.

The port fixes many of the original’s bugs and completes some unfinished gameplay. Version 8.0 adds high-resolution fonts, dynamic lighting from street lights and restored details such as missing lights and birds, and there is basic support for texture and model replacement.

The game has been fully playable since 2020. The download contains no game data. It needs both discs of Driver 2 (USA or Europe), dumped from your own copy.

How to set it up

  1. Download the build for your system and extract it to a folder.
  2. Put both disc images in the install folder as Driver2CD1.bin and Driver2CD2.bin, and check that config.ini points to the first one.
  3. Install a Java runtime and run _convert_cd_fmv_xa.bat (Windows) or _convert_cd_fmv_xa.sh (Linux) to prepare the videos and music.
  4. Run REDRIVER2. On Linux, SDL2 and OpenAL must be installed.
