What you need: PlayStation Doom or Final Doom (any region) as a .cue disc image, dumped from your own copy.

PsyDoom is a native port of PlayStation Doom and Final Doom for Windows, Linux and macOS. It was derived directly from the original PlayStation machine code, gradually turned from emulated MIPS instructions into structured C++, with help from Erick194’s PSXDOOM-RE reconstruction. The PlayStation GPU and sound chip are emulated inside it to keep the original look and sound.

A Vulkan renderer adds widescreen and high resolutions, and there is a modding system with Lua scripting, link-cable multiplayer over the network and command-line options such as pistol starts and turbo mode. It has been checked to replay demos of the original game exactly.

The newest build is a 1.2.0 preview. The download contains no game data. It needs PlayStation Doom or Final Doom, dumped from your own disc.

How to set it up

  1. Download the build for your system: a .zip for Windows and macOS, or an .AppImage for Linux.
  2. Extract it (on Linux, make the AppImage executable) and run PsyDoom.
  3. In the launcher, choose the .cue file of your Doom or Final Doom disc and start the game.
  4. On Windows, install the latest Visual C++ redistributable; on macOS, allow the unsigned app through Gatekeeper.
