Ymir

Ymir is a Sega Saturn emulator by StrikerX3, first released in 2025. It is open source under the GPLv3 licence. The project describes itself as a work in progress, but it is developed actively, with regular stable releases and nightly builds, and the team keeps a public compatibility list.

It loads games from CHD, BIN/CUE, IMG/CCD, MDF/MDS and ISO files, detects the Saturn BIOS (IPL ROM) automatically and switches region to match the game. Other features include save states, rewind of up to a minute, turbo and frame step, backup RAM and cartridge support with a built-in save manager, optional low-level CD block emulation and a debugger. Graphics options include deinterlaced rendering of high-resolution modes.

Ymir runs on Windows 10 or later, macOS 15 or later, Linux and FreeBSD, on both x86-64 and ARM processors. It does not need installing. Windows users need the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. You also need a Saturn BIOS, which we cannot provide.
