Sonic the Hedgehog SMS Recomp

What you need: A ROM of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Master System, dumped from your own cartridge.

Sonic the Hedgehog SMS Recomp is a native Windows port of the 8-bit Sonic the Hedgehog for the Master System, made by mstan by statically recompiling the game’s Z80 code into C, with the video and sound chips emulated around it.

It is an early pre-release, started from the command line with the ROM path and a window scale. So far the output matches the original byte for byte over the title screen and the attract demo; the rest of the game is not yet verified.

The author says AI tools were used heavily in making it.

The download contains no game data. It needs a Sonic the Hedgehog ROM for the Master System, dumped from your own cartridge.

How to set it up

1. Download the Windows zip and extract it. Keep SDL2.dll next to the executable.
2. Start it from a command prompt with the path to your ROM, for example SonicTheHedgehogSMSRecomp.exe path\to\rom --window 3.
3. --window sets the window scale (3 or 4 suit most screens).
