Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Recomp
What you need: A ROM of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Rev A) for the Mega Drive / Genesis, dumped from your own cartridge.
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Recomp is a native Windows port of the Mega Drive Sonic the Hedgehog 2, made by mstan by statically recompiling the game’s 68000 code into C, with the video and sound chips emulated around it.
It adds rollback netplay for up to four players, save states, widescreen, an optional Sonic 3 & Knuckles style save menu and Super forms. The game is playable; one known issue is that the special stages run about twice as fast as they should.
The author says AI tools were used heavily in making it.
The download contains no game data. It needs a Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ROM (Rev A), dumped from your own cartridge.
How to set it up
- Download the Windows zip and extract it.
- Run the launcher and point it at your Sonic the Hedgehog 2 ROM (Rev A).
- Set widescreen, save menu and netplay options in the launcher, then start the game.
