What you need: `Data.rsdk` from the 2013 remaster of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (mobile, Steam or Sonic Origins), from your own copy.

Sonic 2 Decompilation is a native port of the 2013 remaster of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 by Christian Whitehead and Headcannon, made by the RSDKModding team by decompiling the Retro Engine v4 that runs it. The same engine build runs the Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 remasters; the data file decides which game starts.

It adds a built-in mod loader and API, networking for Sonic 2’s two-player versus mode, Egg Gauntlet Zone in Sonic 2’s Time Attack menu when your data includes it, and debug features ported from Sonic Mania. The decompilation is complete and the game is playable from start to end.

The download contains no game data. It needs Data.rsdk from the 2013 remaster of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, from your own copy.

How to set it up

  1. Download the build for your system and extract it. The Android zip holds the APK to install.
  2. Copy Data.rsdk from your own copy of the 2013 Sonic the Hedgehog 2 remaster into the folder with the executable.
  3. Run the executable. Settings are kept in settings.ini next to it.
  4. On Android, the data goes in the RSDKv4 folder the app creates on first launch.
