Sonic the Hedgehog Recomp
What you need: A ROM of Sonic the Hedgehog for the Mega Drive / Genesis, dumped from your own cartridge.
Sonic the Hedgehog Recomp is a native Windows port of the Mega Drive Sonic the Hedgehog, made by mstan by statically recompiling the game’s 68000 code into C. The picture and sound come from the recompiled game running on emulated video and sound chips, and a launcher handles the ROM and settings.
It adds optional widescreen and the usual comforts of a PC build. Green Hill Zone is fully playable; the later zones are only partly working, so it is still an early release.
The author says AI tools were used heavily in making it.
The download contains no game data. It needs a Sonic the Hedgehog ROM, dumped from your own cartridge.
How to set it up
- Download the Windows zip and extract it.
- Run the launcher and point it at your Sonic the Hedgehog ROM.
- Turn on widescreen and other options in the launcher before starting the game.
