Sonic 3 & Knuckles Recomp
What you need: A Sonic 3 & Knuckles ROM (Sonic & Knuckles locked on to Sonic 3) for the Mega Drive / Genesis, dumped from your own cartridge.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles Recomp is a native Windows and Linux port of Sonic 3 & Knuckles for the Mega Drive, made by mstan by statically recompiling the game’s 68000 code into C. It comes from the Sonic3AndKnucklesRecomp project, which builds Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles and the locked-on Sonic 3 & Knuckles as separate programs.
It adds widescreen and a Knuckles & Knuckles mod. The combined game is at an early stage and not yet playable through.
The author says AI tools were used heavily in making it.
The download contains no game data. It needs a Sonic 3 & Knuckles ROM (Sonic & Knuckles locked on to Sonic 3), dumped from your own cartridge.
How to set it up
- Download the Windows zip or the Linux AppImage for Sonic 3 & Knuckles Recomp and extract or unpack it.
- Run the program and point it at your Sonic 3 & Knuckles ROM.
- Turn on widescreen or the Knuckles & Knuckles mod in the settings if you want them.
- The Linux AppImage needs a distribution with glibc 2.39 or newer.
