Genesis Plus GX

Genesis Plus GX is an enhanced continuation of Charles MacDonald’s Genesis Plus, maintained by Eke-Eke. It began as a port to the Nintendo GameCube and Wii and has since been heavily reworked for accuracy. It emulates the Sega Genesis (Mega Drive), Sega CD (Mega CD), Master System, Game Gear and SG-1000, and the project reports full compatibility with their released software, including unlicensed and pirate dumps.

Today most people use it through RetroArch, where Genesis Plus GX is one of the standard cores for Sega’s 8-bit and 16-bit consoles. It is also built into other front ends such as BizHawk and OpenEmu. The only standalone builds from the author are for the GameCube and Wii, published in the project’s repository without version numbers, so this page has no download archive. The source code is available under a non-commercial licence.
