Fuse

Fuse, the Free Unix Spectrum Emulator, is a ZX Spectrum emulator started by Philip Kendall in 1999 and developed by a team of contributors since. Despite its name it runs on Windows and macOS as well as Linux and other Unix-like systems.

It emulates the 16K, 48K, 128K, +2, +2A and +3 Spectrums, as well as the Timex TC2048, TC2068 and TS2068, the Pentagon and Scorpion clones and the Spectrum SE. Its timing is very accurate, and it supports tape, disk and snapshot formats, many peripherals such as the Kempston joystick, Interface 1 and Microdrives, DivIDE and DivMMC, and RZX input recordings.

Fuse is still maintained, and version 1.10.0 was released in September 2026. Official Windows builds are published with each release, Linux users can get it from their distribution or build it from source, and a separate port called Fuse for macOS provides a native Mac version. Fuse is open source under the GNU GPL version 2 or later.
