XM6 TypeG

XM6 TypeG is a Sharp X68000 emulator for Windows. It is based on XM6 by PI., whose source code was released in 2016, and was extended for many years by GIMONS. Since version 3.34, PI. has again been the main maintainer.

It emulates the whole X680x0 line: the X68000, XVI and Compact, the X68030 and the 040turbo and 060turbo upgrades. It covers the machines’ complex display hardware, SASI and SCSI hard disks, MO and CD-ROM drives, MIDI boards, the Mercury Unit and Nereid expansion boards, and CPU speeds from 10 MHz up to 100 MHz. It also has a GUI debugger with many windows for looking inside the hardware.

XM6 TypeG is still maintained, and version 3.38 was released in February 2026 as a 64-bit Windows build. It is freeware, and its interface is in Japanese. It needs X68000 system ROMs, which Sharp allows to be distributed freely, and a separate XM6 utility can create the CG-ROM and SCSI ROM files it needs.
