Tsugaru is an FM Towns emulator written by Soji Yamakawa, known as CaptainYS, who first developed it by comparing its behaviour against his own FM Towns II MX.

It emulates the FM Towns and FM Towns II computers with their 80386 and 80486 processors, CD-ROM drive, FM and PCM sound, sprites and graphics layers, and it also runs FM Towns Marty software. Many games and applications work, including those that rely on precise hardware timing, and it has a built-in debugger and command line options for automated testing. It needs ROM files dumped from a real machine.

Tsugaru is actively developed, and new builds are released automatically for Windows, macOS and Linux, most recently in May 2026. It is open source under the BSD 3-clause licence.
