Lightspark is an open source Flash Player implementation written in C++. It was started in 2009 by Alessandro Pignotti, with a focus on ActionScript 3.0 and the AVM2 virtual machine used by later Flash content. Support for older ActionScript 1.0 and 2.0 content was added later, so it can now run SWF files of every age.

It can run SWF files as a standalone player and was originally made as a browser plug-in for Linux. It uses OpenGL for rendering, and recent versions have greatly improved compatibility with Flash games.

Lightspark is still developed. Version 0.9.0 was released in February 2025, with Windows installers, and newer development builds are published as they are made. On Linux it is available from many distributions’ package repositories. It is released under the GNU LGPL version 3.
