What you need: Your own Super Paper Mario Wii disc image as .iso, .ciso or .wbfs: the USA disc (R8PE01, revision 0) or the European disc (R8PP01). Windows 10 or 11 64-bit with a DirectX 12 or Vulkan graphics card, or 64-bit Linux from 2022 or newer (glibc 2.35) with Vulkan drivers.

New Super Paper Bros. is a native port of Super Paper Mario. The Wii game’s PowerPC code is statically recompiled to C++ with the WiiCompiled tools, so it runs as a Windows or Linux program with no emulator. Builds for macOS and Android, including a RetroArch core, can be made from the source.

The game runs at up to 4K, in its original 4:3, in 16:9 or filling the window, or in a cinematic 2.39:1 frame, and frame interpolation raises it to 120, 180 or 240 fps. Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo pads and the keyboard can be remapped, the on-screen button prompts follow the controller in use, and the Wii Remote pointer used for Tippi and the HOME menu moves with the right stick or the mouse.

A launcher installs the game from the player’s own disc image, switches mods on and off (folders that replace game files or textures) and imports a save from a Wii or from Dolphin, keeping the current one as a backup.

How to Set It Up

  1. Download the zip for Windows or the .tar.gz for Linux and extract it.
  2. Open New Super Paper Bros.exe (on Linux, New Super Paper Bros). If Windows warns that the program isn’t signed, choose More info, then Run anyway.
  3. On the Play page, choose your disc image. The game’s files are copied into the Disc folder once, and the image isn’t needed after that.
  4. Press PLAY. In the game, F10 opens the settings and F11 switches between fullscreen and a window.
  5. To update, extract a new release over the old folder; the disc, saves, settings and mods are kept.

Fixed

  • On screens wider than 16:9 (for example Cinematic 2.39:1), doors no longer stretch or show a second door opening beside the real one. Mario no longer stretches going in or out of pipes, or riding flip panels.

Windows: unzip NewSuperPaperBros.zip over your old folder, or use Options → Game → Update. Linux: unpack NewSuperPaperBros-linux.tar.gz over your old folder. Your disc, saves and settings are kept.
