> Nebula is a native Windows port of Super Mario Galaxy made by static recompilation, with a Direct3D 12 renderer. Its setup builds the game from your own copy.

- Developer: keepvaibin
- Port type: Recompilation (A tool translated the game's original machine code into C automatically, which was then built as a native PC program.)
- Game: [Super Mario Galaxy](https://emulationking.com/nintendo/wii/games/supermariogalaxy/index.md)
- AI use: Mostly AI-built. The project says: “The recompiler, runtime, installer, tests and documentation were written by AI agents and directed, reviewed and tested by the project's author.”
- Source code: https://github.com/keepvaibin/nebula
- Runs on: Windows

What you need: Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii, USA version (RMGE01, revision 0), as an ISO, RVZ or extracted folder dumped from your own disc. Windows 10 (1803 or newer) or 11, a Direct3D 12 graphics card, 8 GB of RAM, 16 GB of free space during setup and an internet connection for the first install.

Nebula runs Super Mario Galaxy natively on Windows. A recompiler written in Rust translates every function of the game's PowerPC executable, the HOME Menu module and the audio DSP program into C++ ahead of time, and a native runtime stands in for the Wii hardware, drawing the GX graphics with Direct3D 12 and handling audio, input, disc and save storage. The translated game is not shipped: the setup program downloads a pinned compiler toolchain and builds the game modules from your own copy.

It supports keyboard and mouse, Xbox controllers and the Switch Pro and Switch 2 Pro controllers over USB, all remappable, with gyro pointing and tilt controls on Switch controllers and rumble that follows the game's Wii Remote motor. Aspect ratios run from 4:3 to 32:9 and internal resolution up to 16x, with SMAA or FXAA, FSR 1 upscaling, anisotropic filtering and optional per-pixel lighting. Setup also updates, repairs, rolls back and uninstalls, and checks the signature of every update.

The author says Nebula was built with AI coding agents, which wrote the recompiler, runtime, installer, tests and documentation under the author's direction, while the game's own logic is the original code translated instruction by instruction. The game is playable from the start, but some areas such as the Gateway Galaxy drop below 60 FPS on weaker processors, some lighting and bloom in the Comet Observatory differs from the original, and heavy background load can make the audio skip. The download contains no Nintendo code or data. It needs a USA copy of Super Mario Galaxy, dumped from your own disc.

## How to set it up

1. Download `Nebula-Setup.exe` and run it. If Windows SmartScreen warns about it, choose More info, then Run anyway.
2. Select your copy of the game and choose Install. Setup downloads a compiler toolchain and compiles the game on your PC, which takes a few minutes on a fast computer and longer on a slow one.
3. Start Nebula from the Start menu. F1 (View + Menu on an Xbox controller, Minus + Plus on a Switch controller) opens the settings in the game.
