What you need: Your own Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition dumped from your own Switch: the base game and the 2.0.0 update (add-on content optional). Windows 10 or later, an x86-64 processor with AVX2, a Vulkan 1.3 graphics card with VK_EXT_external_memory_host, and about 36 GB free during setup (20 GB after).

XCX Recomp turns Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition into a native x86-64 Windows program by static recompilation. It is a fork of TotK Recomp, retargeted to Monolith Soft’s game. The setup builds the game from the player’s own dumped files and keys on their own computer, so the result contains the game and is meant only for that player. It is in early development: New Game, cutscenes and gameplay run with sound, text and menus.

It needs the 2.0.0 update and also supports the Exploration Support Package add-on content. The game runs at 60 fps by default, with 30 to 360 fps selectable in the settings (anything above 60 is experimental), and plays with keyboard, mouse or gamepad. An in-game menu (F1) holds the settings and F10 shows a performance overlay.

A Linux AppImage of the setup is also released, though the project still lists Linux and Steam Deck support, emulator mods, custom aspect ratios and VRR as planned.

How to Set It Up

  1. Download the setup zip for Windows and extract it, or download the AppImage for Linux and make it executable.
  2. Start XCX-Setup.exe (or the AppImage). If SmartScreen warns about an unsigned app, choose More info, then Run anyway.
  3. Pick your game files and prod.keys, the language and an install folder, and press Start. The setup builds the game once on your PC.
  4. Play xcx.exe from the install folder. To update, run a newer setup on the same folder; saves and settings are kept.
