SuperMetroidSNESRecomp
What you need: A ROM of Super Metroid (Japan, USA), unmodified, dumped from your own cartridge.
SuperMetroidSNESRecomp is a native Windows port of Super Metroid, made by static recompilation with mstan’s snesrecomp. It runs the original code through an interpreter where the static pass cannot prove a translation, and the SNES graphics and sound hardware are emulated.
The launcher’s Mods page offers widescreen at Fit, 16:9, 21:9 or 32:9 with the HUD at the edges or centred, and a separate presentation frame rate setting. Both are experimental and off by default. The author says AI tools were used heavily in making it.
It is a work in progress: it boots, plays the attract demo, starts a new game, goes through doors and saves at Samus’s ship, but needs broader testing. The download contains no game data. It needs Super Metroid (Japan, USA), dumped from your own cartridge.
How to set it up
- Download the Windows zip and extract the whole folder. Its DLLs and
assetsfolder are needed. - Run
SuperMetroidSNESRecomp.exeand pick your ROM when asked. - Enable widescreen or a higher presentation frame rate on the launcher’s Mods page.
- Settings and saves are kept next to the program, so keep that folder writable.
