Released: 1994
Console: SNES / Super Famicom
Developer: Nintendo

Super Metroid is an action adventure developed by Nintendo R&D1 and Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo for the Super NES in 1994. Samus Aran follows the Space Pirates back to Zebes after they steal the last Metroid larva, and explores the planet alone.

The large interconnected map opens up as Samus finds new abilities such as the Morph Ball, the Grapple Beam and the Speed Booster, and an automatic map keeps track of where she has been. It is one of the games the word “Metroidvania” comes from.

Native PC ports exist in two forms: the Super Metroid Launcher, which builds the snesrev reimplementation, and a static recompilation by mstan.
