smw
What you need: A ROM of Super Mario World (USA), unheadered, dumped from your own cartridge.
smw is a native Windows port of Super Mario World, a reimplementation of the whole game in C written by the snesrev team, the authors of zelda3. It also reimplements a number of changes made by the Lunar Magic level editor, and uses optimised versions of the LakeSnes PPU and DSP for picture and sound.
While it runs, it can run the original code in the background and compare the two every frame, saving a snapshot if they differ. It supports snapshots that include the input history, turbo mode and replays, and keys are set in smw.ini. The game is playable from start to end.
The only release, v0.1, dates from August 2023. The zip contains a small patch file that the game applies to your ROM to make its data, and no game data of its own. It needs Super Mario World (USA), dumped from your own cartridge.
How to set it up
- Download the Windows zip and extract it.
- Put your ROM next to
smw.exeand name itsmw.sfc. - Run
smw.exe. It builds the game data it needs from the ROM when it starts. - Change controls and options in
smw.ini.
