SuperMarioRPGSNESRecomp is a native port of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars for Windows and Linux, made with mstan’s snesrecomp. The SA-1 coprocessor on the cartridge is emulated, and at this stage most of the main CPU code still runs through the interpreter rather than as static C.

It has an experimental adaptive widescreen renderer, opt-in from the Mods page, which shows more of the field and some battle backgrounds. The author says AI tools were used heavily in making it.

The author calls it preview quality: it boots, runs the attract loop and has passed a short early-game check, but no one has played it through to the end. The Linux download is an older build. The download contains no game data. It needs Super Mario RPG (USA), dumped from your own cartridge.

How to set it up

  1. Download the Windows zip or the Linux AppImage and extract the zip.
  2. Put your ROM next to SuperMarioRPGSNESRecomp.exe or the AppImage as smrpg.sfc, or pick it in the launcher on first run.
  3. Run the program. Widescreen (Experimental) is on the Mods page.
