EarthBound
EarthBound is a role-playing game developed by Ape and HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Super NES, released in Japan as Mother 2 in 1994 and in North America in 1995. A boy called Ness investigates a meteorite that lands near his home in Onett and sets out to stop the alien Giygas.
Its setting is a parody of small-town America, with turn-based battles, rolling health counters and enemies ranging from angry dogs to street punks. It sold modestly in North America but has since become a cult classic.
