ZSNES was one of the first SNES emulators to run a wide range of games, and for many years one of the most popular.

Unlike accuracy-focused emulators such as bsnes, ZSNES concentrates on performance, and much of it is written in x86 assembly, which keeps its memory footprint small. It still handles the SNES's more complex features, such as the Super FX chip, and includes extras such as 44.1kHz audio, movie recording and a range of video filters.

ZSNES is no longer developed, and its last stable release came out in 2007. Its accuracy falls well short of modern emulators such as Snes9x and bsnes, which are the better choice on almost any hardware today. ZSNES was released for Windows and Linux, with a port for Mac OS X.
