What you need: A ROM of Faxanadu (USA), dumped from your own cartridge.

FaxanaduRecomp is a native Windows port of Faxanadu, made by static recompilation with mstan’s nesrecomp, which translates the game’s 6502 code into C.

It fills in your latest mantra on the password screen from a saves.txt file next to the program, and has save states and turbo. The author says AI tools were used heavily in making it.

The author lists it as playable from the title screen to the credits with no known bugs, though not fully playtested. Mantras from the priests must still be copied into saves.txt by hand. The download contains no game data. It needs Faxanadu (USA), dumped from your own cartridge.

How to set it up

1. Download the Windows zip and extract it.
2. Run FaxanaduRecomp.exe and pick your ROM when asked. The path is remembered for later launches.
3. Remap keys in keybinds.ini, which is created next to the program on first run. F6 and F7 save and load states.
