Paper Mario is a role-playing game developed by Intelligent Systems for the Nintendo 64. The story follows a familiar Mario plot: Peach is kidnapped, and Mario fights through a series of challenges and bosses to rescue her.

Paper Mario was well received, earning a score of 93 on Metacritic. It was the best-selling game in Japan in its week of release, and Nintendo Power later ranked it 63rd in its list of the best games released on a Nintendo system.

Paper Mario is one of the hardest games to make texture packs for. Every scene is heavily stylised, so each texture has to be recreated faithfully or the look and feel of the game suffers. Despite the game's popularity, there has never been a 100% complete texture pack for it.
