Duke Nukem Zero Hour: Recompiled
What you need: A ROM of Duke Nukem: Zero Hour (USA), dumped from your own cartridge. The project accepts only this version.
Duke Nukem Zero Hour: Recompiled is a native port of Duke Nukem: Zero Hour for Windows, Linux and macOS, made by static recompilation with N64Recomp and drawn with RT64. It runs as native code rather than through an emulator, and there are Linux builds for x64 and ARM64 as well as a Flatpak.
An in-game menu covers graphics, sound, controls and gameplay settings and works with mouse, keyboard or controller. The latest release adds Controller Pak support, so the game can be saved. Its release notes say the game is playable and runs at half the display’s refresh rate, while widescreen and frame interpolation still need work.
It is an early alpha and the README calls it a work in progress. The download contains no game data. It needs Duke Nukem: Zero Hour (USA), dumped from your own cartridge.
How to set it up
- Download the build for your system from the GitLab release: Windows, macOS, Linux x64 or ARM64, or the Flatpak.
- Extract it and run
DNZHRecompiled(DNZHRecompiled.exeon Windows). - Provide your ROM in the main menu. Dumps in formats other than
.z64are converted automatically. - Steam Deck: extract the Linux build, then in Desktop Mode right-click
DNZHRecompiled, choose Add to Steam and launch it from Gaming Mode. - Optional: put an empty
portable.txtnext to the executable to keep saves, config and mods beside it.
