What you need: A Banjo-Tooie (USA) 1.0 ROM in big-endian `.z64` format, dumped from your own cartridge. Other regions, byte orders and modified ROMs are not supported.

Banjo-Tooie Independent PC Recompilation is a native Windows port of Banjo-Tooie, made by statically recompiling the N64 game with N64Recomp and running it on N64ModernRuntime with the RT64 renderer. It is a separate project from Banjo-Tooie: Recompiled and is not connected to the team behind the Banjo-Kazooie recompilation.

A launcher checks the ROM before play and offers display, resolution, anti-aliasing, framing and audio settings, keyboard and controller remapping with rumble, optional cheats and travel tools. A separate Private Practice session has one save-state slot that never touches normal progress.

It is an alpha for Windows x64 only. Completing the whole game has not been confirmed, some settings are experimental, and the author lists glitching menu overlays and patchy shadows on sloped floors among the known issues. The author says AI tools generated much of the code while they directed, tested and checked it. The download contains no ROM or game assets.

How to set it up

  1. Download the Windows zip and extract all of it into its own folder. There is no installer.
  2. Run TooieRecompiled.exe. If it doesn’t start, install the Microsoft Visual C++ x64 Redistributable.
  3. On the Play page choose Choose ROM…, select your ROM and wait for the launcher to say it is validated.
  4. Choose Start Game. Saves, settings and logs are kept in %LOCALAPPDATA%\BanjoTooieRecompiled.
