Pokémon Red and Blue
Pokémon Red and Green were developed by Game Freak and released in Japan in 1996, followed by Blue. Outside Japan the series began with Red and Blue in 1998 and 1999. The player sets out from Pallet Town to collect badges from eight Gym Leaders, fill the Pokédex and beat the Elite Four, while a rival does the same.
Each version holds Pokémon the other lacks, so trading over the link cable was needed to catch all 151. The games started one of the largest media franchises in the world.
Native ports include Gen1Recomp, a reimplementation that also covers Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, FireRed and LeafGreen, and a static recompilation.
