Holy Hell is one of the most polished homebrew GBA games. It was the developer's first original game, and it is a complete, fully developed one. The developer describes it as "A manic shootemupuzzler". It shows how inventive a game can be when it does not need to be a commercial success.

It is inspired by Mr. Driller, Magical Drop and Ikaruga, and borrows the chain scoring system from Radiant Silvergun.

The game is challenging, addictive and very charming.
