What you need: A disc image of SoulCalibur II for GameCube (USA, Japan or Europe; the community Plus disc also works), dumped from your own disc.

Ring Out is a native port of the GameCube SoulCalibur II for Windows and Linux, including the Steam Deck. It is a static recompilation: the game’s PowerPC code is translated to C ahead of time and runs as native code inside a Dolphin-derived runtime that handles graphics, sound and input. No game code is shipped: the first run extracts your disc and recompiles it on your PC, which takes several minutes.

It renders with Vulkan and adds widescreen, HD texture packs, skin and texture mods, save states, match replays, a free camera, cheats for all regions and delay-based netplay over a direct connection. US, Japanese and PAL discs all work. The author says it was made with AI assistance from Anthropic’s Claude.

The game is playable from start to finish, but the README calls the project early and warns of rough edges. The download contains no game data. It needs SoulCalibur II for GameCube, dumped from your own disc.

How to set it up

  1. Download the zip for your system: Windows (toolchain included), Linux, or the separate Steam Deck package.
  2. On Linux, install cmake, ninja, python3 and clang first; the setup script names the right command for your distribution.
  3. Extract it and run RingOut, then choose your disc image when asked.
  4. The first run extracts and recompiles the game, which takes several minutes. Later runs start straight away.
