Geargrafx is a very accurate, cross-platform PC Engine and TurboGrafx-16 emulator written in C++ by Ignacio Sánchez, the author of Gearsystem and Gearboy. It covers the whole HuCard library, the SuperGrafx, the CD-ROM², Super CD-ROM² and Arcade CD-ROM² systems, and even NEC LaserActive LD-ROM² discs.

It supports chd, cue/bin and zipped images, save states with rewind, run-ahead to reduce input latency, the Multi Tap for up to five players, Avenue Pad 3 and 6 controllers and the mouse. CD-ROM games need a System Card BIOS, with version 3.0 recommended. For developers there is a full debugger with a disassembler, breakpoints, a memory editor and viewers for the video and sound chips, and an embedded MCP server for AI assisted debugging.

Geargrafx is actively developed and is released under the GNU GPL version 3. Version 1.8.0 has official builds for Windows (x64 and ARM64), macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Ubuntu Linux, and it is also available as a libretro core for RetroArch.
