QUASI88

QUASI88 is an emulator for the NEC PC-8801 series, developed by S. Fukunaga since 1998. It was originally written for UNIX and X11, and since version 0.7 it is built on SDL2, so it runs on Windows as well as Linux, FreeBSD and macOS.

It emulates the PC-8801 series in its V1 and V2 modes, including N88-BASIC, the floppy drives and the OPN and OPNA FM sound chips of the Sound Board and Sound Board II. The sound code comes from MAME and xmame, with the fmgen FM generator also included. Recent versions add a touch keyboard, a toolbar, state saves and WAV recording. You need ROM images dumped from a real PC-88 to use it.

QUASI88 is still maintained: version 0.7.4 was released on 1 May 2026. The official download is a ready to run Windows build with SDL2 included, and the source code can be compiled on other systems. It is free software under a modified BSD licence, with the sound code under the MAME and fmgen licences.
