What you need: An ISO of Saints Row for Xbox 360 (the disc version the port was made from), dumped from your own disc, plus about 15 GB of disk space and 16 GB of RAM for the build.

Saints Reborn is a native Windows port of Saints Row, made by static recompilation with ReXGlue. It is a build kit: the download is a small setup program, and the first launch builds the game on your PC from your own disc, which takes 30 to 90 minutes. It needs Windows 10 or 11 and a Direct3D 12 graphics card.

The author calls it playable, with the intro videos, character creator, missions and free roam all working with sound. It renders at twice the original resolution by default, runs at 60 fps and above with the bundled mod, and has full keyboard and mouse controls modelled on Saints Row 2 for PC, with matching button prompts. Whompay’s Mod Loader can replace game files, run Lua scripts and load C or C++ hooks.

Known issues are some texture flicker in the character creator and a longer loading screen after starting a new game. The download contains no game data. It needs Saints Row for Xbox 360 as an ISO, dumped from your own disc.

How to set it up

  1. Download SaintsReborn-Setup.exe and run it.
  2. Select your Saints Row ISO and press Install. Setup downloads Git, the Visual Studio C++ build tools and the Visual C++ runtime if they are missing, then builds the game; the first build takes 30 to 90 minutes.
  3. Start the game from the Saints Reborn shortcut, or run dist\WhompaysModLoader.exe to choose mods and play.
  4. To update an existing install, run SaintsReborn-Updater.exe and choose your Saints Reborn folder; only what changed is rebuilt.
