Ridge Racer 6 Recomp

Ridge Racer 6 Recomp is an unofficial native Windows port of Ridge Racer 6. The game’s PowerPC program is translated to C++ and compiled into a Windows executable that runs on the ReXGlue SDK, from version 0.1.3 on the author’s own fork of it. The release contains only the recompiled program and launcher; the tracks, cars, sound and video come from your own disc image.

The launcher copies the game files out of your disc image, sets the display and key bindings, and can pack a detailed log with your PC’s specifications for bug reports. The game renders at up to four times the original 720 lines, with optional FXAA and 16x texture filtering, fills ultrawide screens at 21:9 with the HUD moved to the edges, and can be played in any of the disc’s six languages. Xbox and PlayStation controllers work without setup alongside a fully remappable keyboard. The 21 achievements that don’t need Xbox Live work, with pop-ups and a list in the game, and downloadable content from your own console can be added. The game runs at 60 frames per second, as on the console.

The author calls it an early test release. Some antivirus programs flag the SDK’s runtime file, rexruntime.dll; the project’s readme explains why and how to check it. Experimental Linux and Steam Deck test builds are published separately. The download contains no game data. It needs the USA disc of Ridge Racer 6, dumped from your own copy.
