Developer: Bizarre Creations

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved is a twin-stick shooter developed by Bizarre Creations and published by Microsoft Game Studios on Xbox Live Arcade in 2005, when the Xbox 360 launched. It is an expanded version of the minigame hidden in the garage of Project Gotham Racing 2.

The player steers a small ship around a bounded grid with one stick and fires with the other, while swarms of neon shapes with different behaviours spawn in ever larger numbers. Smart bombs clear the screen, and the warping background grid and particle effects became the series’ trademark. It was one of the most popular early Xbox Live Arcade games.

A native port of the Xbox 360 version, made by static recompilation, runs on Windows and Linux.
