What you need: Your own disc of Project Gotham Racing for the original Xbox, as an `.iso` or its files: Europe 1.1, Europe and Australia 1.0 or USA 1.0 (the launcher checks it). Windows 10 or 11 64-bit with a Direct3D 12 or 11 graphics card, about 3 GB free, and an internet connection for about 1.4 GB of build tools.

This is an unofficial native PC port of the original Xbox version of Project Gotham Racing, Bizarre Creations' 2001 racer. The game's own x86 code is statically recompiled into a Windows program with TGP482's Xbox XBE Recomp tool, and the Xbox's graphics, sound and system libraries are reimplemented for Windows with Direct3D 12 or 11, XAudio2 and SDL. It is not an emulator.

The game's code is never downloaded: the launcher fetches only the build tools and the project's source, then builds the game from the player's own disc. Each release of the game is its own compile, so the build recompiles the disc it is given, and the Japanese and Asian releases aren't supported.

It adds extended graphics options and other enhancements to the original, and the launcher needs no Visual Studio, Git or admin rights.

## How to set it up

1. Download `PGR1Launcher.exe`, put it in a folder of its own (for example `C:\Games\PGR1`) and run it. If Windows warns about an unrecognised app, choose More info, then Run anyway.
2. Choose your disc image or the folder with the disc's files. The launcher checks that it is a supported release.
3. Accept the licence terms for Microsoft's C++ libraries and Windows SDK, which the build uses, and build the game. Everything goes in a `PGR1` folder next to the launcher.
4. Play from the launcher. It also installs new versions of the port.
