Overview
Colin McRae Rally 2005 XBE Recomp, by projectedan, is an unofficial native PC port of the original Xbox version of Codemasters’ rally game, made with the Xbox XBE Recomp tool. A PC version of the game already exists, but without modern controller support or 64-bit support, and this port aims to be an easy way to play the Xbox release instead. Its first release is a beta.
It runs in fullscreen, borderless or windowed mode at any resolution, renders well above the console’s 640x480, and keeps a steady 60 FPS cap since the game steps its physics once a frame. Anisotropic filtering up to 16x, FXAA or SMAA, a shader cache and fixes for the road, track and depth of field rendering are included, and an overlay over the blurred game changes the settings as it runs.
The game’s own audio effects run on an emulated Xbox audio DSP. Xbox, PlayStation and Switch controllers work with hot plugging and rumble, PNG texture replacements and file overrides are supported, and the Codemasters logo screen is skipped. No game assets are included: the player supplies the US Xbox game, and its code is compiled for their PC on the first start.
How to Set It Up
- Download
CMR2005.zipand extract it. - Put your game files, an ISO or the extracted files, in the
assetsfolder. - Run
CMR2005.exe. The first start compiles the game’s code for your PC; this only happens once. - Press F1, or Back + Start on a controller, for the settings overlay.
