Overview
BLACK XBE Recomp is a native Windows port of the Xbox version of Black, made with TGP482’s own Xbox XBE Recomp tool. The download holds the port’s executable and its compiler but none of the game: on the first start it reads the player’s own disc image and compiles the game’s code for that PC, which only needs doing once.
The port replaces the Xbox’s 640x480 picture and 30 FPS limit with any resolution the monitor offers, render scaling from 20% to 200%, an uncapped or custom frame rate and HDR10 output. Field of view and weapon field of view can be widened, draw distance raised up to 16 times, and MSAA, SMAA, anisotropic filtering and SSAO or GTAO ambient occlusion added.
It has full keyboard and mouse support with raw input and rebindable keys, controllers through SDL3, and gyro aiming on motion-sensing pads such as the DualSense and Switch Pro Controller. It can also skip the intro logos and pause when the window loses focus.
How to Set It Up
- Download the zip and extract it into a folder of its own.
- Put your Black ISO, or the extracted disc files, in the
assetsfolder. - Run
BLACK.exe. The first start compiles the game’s code for your PC, which happens only once. - Change the display, graphics and control settings in the in-game options menu or the overlay opened with F10.
